Got Creepy Ass Dolls?

I started a creepy ass doll collection for Halloween. I cant begin to tell you how fun it is to play with dolls! But then I don't play with them like most people do...

Going back to the beginning

The first thing I did when I decided a creepy doll collection was to of course google and then created an awesome pinterest board for all my creepy ass ideas:). One of the first dolls I pinned was from the halloween forum.

Dolly pulling out other doll's eye???? Yes, I totally had to recreate this. I went to my local thrift store, that happens to be like a major retailer in my state. I searched through all the half naked dolls, with their ugly colored faces and their ratty hair, picking out the ones that I thought I could beautify.

A little old man saw my cart full of dolls, and asked "What are you going to do with all those dolls!?" I laughed and smiled, and told him they were for some Halloween experiments. I also laughed at myself pushing that cart full of plastic dolls around the store, like I was some adult sized child picking out my favorite dollies, planning to take them home for tea... and maybe an eye or two??

First can I say how freaking hard this eye was to get out. But once you understand the mechanics of doll eyes, its gets easier... well not really, but you will understand that it can be achieved! Most of the doll eyes I have worked with have a plastic "skin" that encases the eye on the inside. If you can pop the head off, and you have some pretty flexible fingers, it is possible to cut the film from the eye through the neck hole. The plastic skin has to be sliced through and then you can pop the eye into the head and pull it out.

However, if you cant remove the head, cutting into the plastic from the back of the doll's skull area is probably your best bet. I like a 3/4 completed square, so I can almost pull the plastic back like a hatch. I want to point this out, although it is quite obvious, doll heads are pretty small:) lol. Getting your hands into the heads to cut, or replace eyes can be such a pain, literally. My hands are usually scratched up by the end, but gosh darn it those suckers are coming out!

If the eye you are replacing is bigger (so in other words you will need a bigger hole for the new eye) it is possible to cut the eye out from the front. The case (plastic skin on the inside of the head around the back of the eye)  is bigger than the visual eye hole on the front of the face,  so you will need to cut bigger than the actual hole. This is a pretty messy way to remove an eye, and you loose all definition of the original eye and eye lid, so I only recommend if you are using a bigger eye to fill the gap. Although this is another possible way to remove the eye, I still prefer to remove from the inside.

Once I have the eye in place I heat up my hot glue gun and glob some glue on backside of the eye (inside the head). Don't apply too much at once, or I promise, your eye will get too heavy before the glue dries and the damn eye will fall back out, making it so you have to wrestle it back in after pulling off dried glue. So drop a few drops in to hold it place let it dry and add some more. Another warning, the second layer of glue can re-melt the first layer, causing the "dreadful heavy eye". hahaha I totally love my self right now:)

I used a hot glue gun for the blood drops as well. This is really cool to work with, so easy, and if your drops turn out looking crappy you can peel them off once dry and try again.

I used a paint pen that I found in the Walmart craft section. I really dig these pens, its kind of like a little spray paint can, but its a pen. You have to shake it just like you would a can, but instead of a spay cap it has soft cloth looking tip, that sucks in the paint allowing you to "draw" with it. I especially like the way the glue created strings in the eye, that I painted as well. It look like a nasty gutted eye.

I will probably spray the blood drops with crystal clear enamel by rustoleum (found this in the spray paint area at Walmart for three or four bucks.) Love this stuff too, it gives a nice shinny quality. If I do I'll update the pictures.
